Records of Claude Stanley Richardson (WWI)
Sometimes we are contacted by family members who wish to share the stories of their relatives who were part of the Regiment as it stood in WWII. At some point we would like to formulate a database to aid others in finding more information about their relatives or the comrades that they fought with.
We were contacted by the granddaughter of Claude Stanley Richardson, 33.
Of 20 Craignish Ave, Norbury, a motor dealer, enlisted at Grove Park as M2/131509 Dvr Claude Stanley Richardson with the Army Service Corps (Motor Transport) on 11 Oct 1915.
He claimed 4 yrs previous service with the Westminster Dragoons.
His NOK was his wife Isabel Alice Maud Richardson (nee Haider) of 20 Craignish Ave, Norbury, who he married on 30 Sep 1905 at St Lukes, Uxbridge Rd, London.
He had two children, Claude Allan born 4 Mar 1910 at Streatham & Brenda Isabal [sic] born 3 Nov 1907 at Streatham.
He was awarded the 1915 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal.
His service was as follows:
· 11 Oct 1915 – Home service.
· 7 Nov 1915 – Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, embarked Devonport on HT Anchises & disembarked at Alexandria on 20 Nov 1915 for posting to 596 Coy, ASC (MT).
· 22 Dec 1915 Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force, 596 Coy, embarked on HT Ilston at Alexandria & disembarked at Basrah on 17 Jan 1916.
· 17 Apr 1916 – Transferred ‘on command 3rd Indian Army Corps, in the field’.
· 16 May 1916 - Promoted Cpl with 596 Coy in the field.
· 2 Nov 1916 – Returned to Margil from detachment to 3IAC.
· 3 Jun 1917 – Appointed A/CQMS with 596 Coy at Margil. · 28 Dec 1917 – Promoted CQMS (SSgt) with 596 Coy.
· 27 Sep 1918 – Hospitalized with malignant malaria in ‘Gerard Freeman-Thomas War Hospital’.
· 20 Oct 1918 – Invalided to India on HS Ellora.
· 5 Dec 1918 – At Convalescent Section, Deolali, India.
· 27 Jan 1919 – Invalided to England on HT Castalia (?).
· 29 Mar 1919 – Transferred to Class Z Army Reserve on demobilisation.
Hopefully as we build out the database we will be able to uncover more information.
